Welcome to the Beer Passport™
Discover breweries. Meet brewers. Remember the journey.

What is the Beer Passport™?
The Beer Passport™ is your companion for exploring South Africa’s independent beer scene — intentionally, and at your own pace.
It’s not about rushing from stop to stop.
It’s about taking the time to do it properly.
Two simple tools work together:
The Beer Troopers map
Lives on your phone and helps you find independent breweries and beer-friendly places.
The Beer Passport™
A printed passport to record where you’ve been, who you met, and the moments that mattered.
One helps you find your way.
The other helps you remember the journey.
What the map helps you do

- Find independent breweries near you
- Explore routes across towns and regions
- Keep track of the places you’ve visited
No scores.
No leaderboards.
No pressure.

Think of it as a travel journal for beer lovers — a place to capture stories, not just stops.

– Space for stamps, notes, and mementos.
– No rigid structure.
– No rules.
Just your journey, recorded your way.

Recognition over rewards
We don’t turn beer into a competition.
We don’t chase discounts or gimmicks.
This is about recognition —
a nod from a brewer,
a familiar face behind the bar,
a place you return to.
Every mark represents a real moment, not a transaction.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I collect my Beer Passport™ in person?
Our base camp is in Salt Rock, KwaZulu-Natal, but we don’t currently offer public pickup points.
Your Beer Passport™ will be couriered anywhere in South Africa via Pudo — reliable, affordable, and convenient.
Does the Beer Passport™ expire?
No — the Beer Passport™ itself does not expire.
The year printed on the cover (for example, 2024/2025) refers to the edition and print year, not an expiry date. You’re welcome to use your passport for as long as it continues to tell your story.

After the first year, continued access to the map is available through Beer Troopers community membership — optional, not automatic — for those who wish to stay connected and support the project.
What about free beer and offers?
Free beer has always been a generous gesture from individual brewers and pubs — and when it’s offered, it’s appreciated.
However, the overwhelming feedback from the Beer Troopers community is clear: most explorers prefer to pay for their beer. They’re there to support independent places, not to chase discounts.
Any complimentary pours or offers are entirely at the discretion of each brewer or venue and may vary from place to place. They should always be accepted with gratitude, never expectation.
The Beer Passport™ focuses on what matters most:
- Discovery
- Memory
- Recognition
Not discounts.
The value isn’t in a free beer — it’s in the places you discover, the people you meet, and the moments you remember.
What people say
“We got our Beer Passports last year and it’s been the highlight of our time together. Thanks to this little orange book, we’ve discovered places and towns we never would’ve thought to visit. We even stopped flying to the coast — because we don’t want to miss the breweries and beer stops along the way.” — Yolandi
“One of the best ways to discover South Africa’s beer culture. Every stamp tells a story.” — Dieter Pey | Cars & Camping
This is what the journey looks like when you take your time.
